Montpellier tighten grip on Ligue 1 title

Montpellier Hérault SC strengthened their hold on the Ligue 1 title after a 2-0 victory against Stade Rennais FC took them three points clear at the summit with two games to play.

Montpellier Hérault SC edged closer to their first Ligue 1 title after a 2-0 win against Stade Rennais FC lifted them three points clear of second-placed Paris Saint-Germain FC with two games remaining.

The pressure was on René Girard's side after they were displaced by PSG at the summit on Sunday but their anxiety was eased when Suleyman Camara struck his ninth goal of the season on 26 minutes. And with Rennes' hopes of a UEFA Champions League berth fading, they fell two behind after the break when goalkeeper Benoît Costil (52) put through his own net.

LOSC Lille Métropole secured a top-three finish with a 3-0 success against SM Caen, thanks in part to Túlio De Melo's first-half double, and AS Saint-Étienne remain sixth after being held to a goalless draw by Olympique de Marseille.

FC Sochaux-Montbéliard climbed out of the relegation zone with a vital 1-0 victory against AS Nancy-Lorraine, but AJ Auxerre are a point adrift at the bottom following a 4-2 home defeat by FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Dijon FCO sit 19th after drawing 0-0 with FC Lorient, while Toulouse FC and OGC Nice also finished goalless.
